
Basketball and Cheerleading
YMCA Youth Sports Leagues are designed for children of all ages and stress development of skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive competition in a FUN environment. All participants get to play equal amounts of time during the games and will play all different positions.

Registration
The YMCA of the Capital area offers a winter and summer session of youth basketball. Registration for the winter session basketball league usually begins in early November and ends in mid December. Registration for the summer session basketball league usually begins in early April and ends in mid May. Check with your local YMCA for more details.
Age Groups
This sport is for boys and girls as young as 3 years old. The children are grouped together in divisions that are broken down into 2-year increments. Age limits may vary by branch, so check with your local YMCA for league details.
Games
Games are held on Saturdays for length of eight weeks. Game times will vary.
Practices
Practices are usually held a minimum of once per week up to a maximum of twice per week. Practices are determined by the coaches and are usually held during the week in the evenings between 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Volunteers
We are always looking for energetic moms and dads to be volunteer coaches and help the YMCA build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. Please inform the program director if you wish to be a volunteer coach.
Recommended Equipment
Basketball shoes and shorts are required. Children are not allowed to wear jeans. The YMCA will provide jerseys and all other equipment.
Cheerleading
YMCA cheerleading is offered for children 3-12 years. Children will learn basic cheers and will cheer for all teams in the YMCA Youth Basketball Leagues.
