YMCAs have led community-based health and fitness for more than a century. Research continues to support the approach to health that YMCAs have taken since 1891 when Luther Gulick proposed the red YMCA triangle as a symbol of a person's "essential unity -- spirit, mind and body" each being a necessary and eternal part of man.' Participation in Y health and fitness programs offer opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, self-confidence, and improved mental abilities and cognition -- not to mention the obvious benefits of healthy hearts, lungs, bones and muscles.

Group Exercise

The YMCA offers unlimited access to a variety of group exercise classes as a membership benefit. Whether it's yoga, kickboxing, cycling, or something in-between, there's sure to be a class worth incorporating into your wellness routine.

Silver Sneakers 

SilverSneakers® I-Muscular Strength & Range of Motion: This class for active older adults is designed to enhance their daily life by increasing muscular strength and overall range of motion. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are used for resistance training. Chairs are used for support while seated or standing.

YMCA of the Capital Area was an award winner in the "Best of 225" awards in the area of "Best Gym".
